Mary Jane Wichita, 86, a resident of Severna Park, died on March 12, 2011 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Severna Park, after a lengthy battle of cancer.

She was born on December 18, 1924 in Fort Worth, TX, where she was raised, and graduated from Our Lady of Victory High School, where she was the valedictorian of her class. She previously lived in Nagoya, Japan; Childress, Texas; Fort Wayne Indiana; Tacoma, Washington; Tucson, Arizona; Gallup, NM; San Rafael, CA; Newburgh, NY; Colorado Springs, CO; Towson, MD; and Arnold, MD.

Mrs. Wichita worked as a contributing journalist for a local Towson newspaper and publicity for Towson Catholic operettas. In WWII, she had been an Engineering Draftsman for Consolidated Aircraft.

She was a member of the Society of Officer's Wives, an active member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Severna Park, and a member of the Manresa Community.

Mary enjoyed gardening, reading, writing, lapidary, boating, cooking, music, her pets and family gatherings.

She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Matthew Wichita.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Walter Wichita of Severna Park; two daughters, Kathleen Noppinger and her husband Robert of Cockeysville and Maureen Rogers and her husband Marvin of Laurel; one son, Michael Wichita of Baltimore; one sister, Pat Milberger and her husband, Bill Milberger of Oklahoma; several in-laws from her husband's family; and seven grandchildren, Michael Wichita, Nick Noppinger, Liz Noppinger, Mary Noppinger, Jennifer Rogers, Jessica Rogers, and Julie Rogers.

Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy in Severna Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 1:00 pm at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, 21146. Interment in MD Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD.
