Mary V. Torchia, 89, of Severna Park, died of natural causes March 23 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie after a brief illness.
Born on Aug. 18, 1916, and reared in Clearfield, Tenn., Mrs. Torchia lived in Severna Park for more than 36 years. She worked for the National Security Agency for more than 30 years until retiring as an analyst.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Calvary United Methodist Church and loved planning and giving dinner parties.
The widow of Joseph Torchia, she is survived by her daughter, Norma Slauter of Seattle, Wash.; one sister, Christine Fohrkaub of Baltimore; and two grandchildren.
She was the daughter of Riley Anderson who died in 1955 and Susie Chitwood Anderson who died in 1961. She was the sister of the late Elsie Butterini, Dorothy Hoseapple, Kay Masl, Barbara Myrtle, Martha Anderson, James Dudley Anderson, Mildred Welchel, Betty Biden and Polly May.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Calvary United Methodist Church, with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie.
