Mary Lee Sexton (nee MacDermott), 92, of Severna Park, MD died December 16th, 2021. "Lee" Sexton was wife to Walter L. Sexton, Jr. (deceased 1996), mother to Joyce Sexton McClain (Florida), Deborah Munn (Virginia), and Gail Sexton Anderson (California) as well as ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mary Lee was born in Baltimore, MD on September 20th, 1929, to William Price MacDermott and Merle Adeline Strong MacDermott. She grew up in Baltimore County and graduated from Catonsville High School. After high school, she dropped the double name and was known as Lee.

Lee met Walter Sexton after high school. Though they had both attended Catonsville High and both graduated in 1947, they did not get to know each other until after graduation when Walter arranged to ride the same bus with Lee and struck up a conversation. They married in June of 1952.

Lee and Walter moved to Severna Park in 1965 where they raised their daughters. Lee was very active in the Severna Park Republican Women, holding several offices, from Treasurer to President. Lee and her husband Walt were both active in local politics. Lee worked for Maryland House of Delegates member John Gary for several years.

Walter was involved in a car accident on January 25th, 1996 and died from complications of his injuries on July 2, 1996. In 1998, Lee became an office volunteer at Severna Park United Methodist Church where she served for eight years.

Lee had a huge heart for animals and could not say no to an animal in need of a home. She provided a home for many cats and dogs and other smaller animals throughout her life. She was never happier than when in the company of her furry friends.

Lee lived a full life and passed peacefully, sitting in her favorite chair with her beloved cat, Pixie, in her lap. We loved her and will miss her. We know she is at peace and in God's hands.

There will be a celebration of her life on Friday, January 14th at 11 a.m. at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road, Severna Park, MD 21146.
