Mary Schuler

Mary Jean Schuler, 84, a resident of Arnold since 1984, died of bladder cancer Aug. 24 at home after an 18-month illness.

Born Nov. 13, 1921, in Cecilton, Md., Mrs. Schuler was reared in Baltimore and graduated from Western High School in 1939.

Mrs. Schuler tap danced in the chorus line during the Spring and Fall Festivals at the Hippodrome Theatre from 1938 to 1940, backing up such stars as Betty Grable and Red Skelton.

She was a member founding of the hospital auxiliary at the Wilson N. Janer Hospital in Sherman, Texas, where she remained active for 21 years.

Her interests included travel, attending aerobics and line dancing classes and bowling in the Senior's League.

Surviving are her husband, Victor F. Schuler; one son, Guy R. Schaeffer of Hagerstown, Md.; one brother, John Manlove of Baltimore; one sister, Barbra Ducker of Baltimore; and three grandchildren. She was the former wife of William E. Schaeffer, whom she married in 1942 and divorced in 1952. She was also the sister of the late Ruth W. Ripken.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, 2130 Woodlawn Drive, Baltimore.
