Mary Harlene Nehring was born February 4 th , 1939 in Crawford Nebraska, the daughter of Lieutenant Colonel Harley Hungerford and Clarabell Legate. She was united in marriage to David Charles Nehring on January 7th, 1961 in Odenton, Maryland. He preceded her in death August 2nd, 2003. They were married for 42 blissful years, never leaving Maryland as their home.

After graduating from Arundel Senior High School in 1957, Mary (often affectionately called by her middle name, Harlene) received her Registered Nursing degree from Sinai Hospital's School of Nursing in Baltimore. She worked as a Registered Nurse at North Arundel Hospital (now Baltimore Washington Medical Center). She was one of the first three nurses in the state of Maryland trained for the rigors of the Intensive Care Unit and Coronary Care Unit which were conceived in the 1960's.

As a young girl in the 1950's, she was able to travel extensively throughout Europe with her family as her father was a pilot in the US Army. Her fondest memories were when her family lived in Salzburg, Austria, where she learned to speak fluent German.

Mrs. Nehring was a member of Crosspointe Community Church in Arnold, for 25+ years. She served the church in both worship choir, Parrish nursing and in the financial offices. She embraced her role in WitnesSing!, which allowed her to travel about the mid-Atlantic region singing God's praises with Jenkins Memorial Church.

She retired from the Maryland Board of Education as a teacher in Health Occupations in Vocational Education. Her amassed wealth of knowledge in the medical field drove her to earn Bachelors degrees and multiple Masters degrees in Psychology and Education.  When not selflessly caring for the needs of so many others, Mary tended to their waterfront estate on the Magothy River in Arnold, where she enjoyed serene views of the Chesapeake Bay and eastern sunrises for 40 years.

She is survived by her 3 children; Cheryl L. Nehring-Ruff, Annapolis, MD,  David C. Nehring Jr, Pasadena, MD, Steven L. Nehring, Lothian, MD;  daughters-in-law, Pamela A. Nehring (David) and Carrie N. Nehring (Steven). She lovingly enjoyed 5 grandchildren; Bethany & Joseph-(David), Timothy, Kaylee & Dayne-(Steven), and 1 great-grandchild, Sylar-(Timothy)

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 3 younger brothers, Jay Hungerford, Clarence Hungerford, Robert Hungerford, all residing in Arizona. Her remaining living relatives reside throughout the country, embracing the true Pioneer stock from which she came.
