Mary Elizabeth Fatz, 88, of Severna Park, MD., passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 20, 2023.

Mary was born on May 29, 1935 in Shamokin, PA., daughter of the late Martin E. and Loretta Hogarty.   On New Years Eve, 1956, she married the love of her life, Anthony J. Fatz, later welcomed two children, and set roots in Maryland.

Mary is survived by her loving spouse, Anthony J. Fatz, her daughter and best friend, Mary K. VanHorn, her beloved son, Anthony M. Fatz (wife Christine) and grandchildren.  Mary's greatest gift was her family.  She loved being a wife, mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Grandmother to Kaitlin VanHorn (Ryan Fox) and Colleen VanHorn, she was the best grandma anyone could ask for.  Mary was also blessed to become a great-grandmother (grandma's mommy) to Emilia Fox, who she adored and couldn't wait to hold in her arms.  She made every holiday and birthday special and cherished the time with her family.

Also grandmother to Ashley (Fatz) Meachum, Jennifer Fatz, Erica Fatz and Christopher Fatz, Mary treasured time she spent with them, Tony and Christine. She looked forward to family visits and any opportunity to spend time with them, especially when the entire family could gather together.

Mary was preceded in death by her brother and his spouse, Frank and Carol Hogarty, and is survived by their children, Carol Chernago, Patty Zurick, and Michael Hogarty from Shamokin, PA.

After years of being a homemaker, Mary spent time working as a preschool teacher in Laurel, MD.  When her first grandchild, Kaitlin, was born, she retired her preschool job to take care of Kaitlin, and eventually Colleen as well, while her daughter worked.  As granddaughters, Kaitlin and Colleen, became school age, you could always find Mary in attendance at every sporting event and school function.  The proud grandmother, recognized by many Severna Park parents and kids because she never missed an event.

Mary was happiest at home with her husband, Anthony, loved having her family stop by for visits, and she always looked forward to fall trips to Ocean City, MD.

We love you, we will miss you, and you will forever be our angel.
