Beloved Mom, Gigi, and Aunt Mary "Janet" Epley left us peacefully at Anne Arundel Medical Center on March 23, 2021.  She was born on February 25, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky, the only daughter of the late William and Mary Genevieve Coyle.  Janet made her way to Maryland as a teenager and remained in Maryland for the rest of her life.

Janet had a vivacious spirit that touched everyone who knew her.  She was an original resident of Pines on the Severn in Arnold, Maryland, where she lived for more than half a century.  Through the decades, she welcomed everyone who came through her door with her southern charm and hospitality.  Everyone who met her was loved and appreciated, and always welcome to come sit by the pool and have a coffee – or "a shot and a beer."  Janet would light up a room with her laughter and storytelling; there was never a dull moment when she was around.  That light will be sorely missed.

Janet loved all things social and she loved to be in the middle of the action.  That manifested itself in many ways, through her volunteering for the Pines on the Severn community in a number of roles such as a swim coach, volleyball coach, lifeguard, and member of the Pines Beach Patrol; to holding parties in the Epley basement with her pool table, jukebox, and the infamous Halloween bash; to attending her sons' and granddaughters' sporting events where she proudly and unabashedly cheered louder than any other spectator; and to attending family holiday events where she would be the first to arrive and the last to leave.

Janet's light and love for life also extended into her Alcoholics Anonymous work, which began in 1983 and continued through the rest of her life.  She was an AA sponsor and support system to endless friends and newcomers, selflessly wanting the best for everyone she met as they were considering going into, or as they were going through, the program.

Above all, Janet loved her family.  Mom was wonderfully devoted to her sons, James ("Jimmy") and Kevin, and her daughter in law, Michelle.  Gigi was a loving grandmother and the biggest fan of her granddaughters, Sarah and Kyla.  Aunt Janet adored her extended family near and far, and especially Maureen, Kathy, Bobby, and Mike whom she regarded as her brothers and sisters.  She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

A celebration of Janet's life will be held at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.  Flowers are welcome.
