Mary Louise Clithero (nee Jones), 84, a former 20 year resident of Severna Park, died on January 25, 2010, of natural causes after a lengthy illness, at Charlestown Renaissance Gardens in Catonsville.
Mary was born on April 1, 1925 in Birmingham, AL, where she was raised. She graduated in 1948 from the University of Alabama with a degree in Medical Technology with a triple major in Chemistry, Bacteriology and Biology. Mary worked in labs and hospitals throughout the United States and the Pacific. She was also a health inspector for Prince George's County for several years.
She married John Dickens "Dick" Clithero, Sr. in 1949. They moved extensively due to his military career and his career with the U.S. Weather Bureau. They came to Severna Park from Camp Springs, MD in the mid 1980's, then to Charlestown Retirement Community in 2005. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past May.
Mrs. Clithero was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. Her hobbies included indoor and outdoor gardening, especially raising African violets.
She enjoyed needlework and was a member of the Annapolis Needlework Guild. Also, she was a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and a member of Severna Park United Methodist Church in Severna Park.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Diane Jackins (Joe) of Millersville, MD; her son, John Clithero ( Delle) of Lewisville, NC; grandchildren, Amy Gill (Jeremy) and Keith Clithero; and brother, Teddy Jones (Shirley). She was preceded in death by her late brother, Tom Jones (Janelle).
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Gov. Ritchie Hwy. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 28 at 11 AM at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road, Severna Park, MD 21146.
Interment will be private.
