Martin "Marty" Albert Hayes, 81, of Cape St Claire passed away from Pulmonary Fibrosis after a brief illness on November 5, 2019 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Martin Edwin and Eloise Baker Hayes on August 19, 1938 in Kansas.  He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Wingard. His children and their spouses, Elizabeth and Rick Schultz , Ginger and Steve Andrews and Todd and Michelle Wingard. His grandchildren and their spouses, Morris Frederick (Trey) III and Brittney Schultz, Alexandria(Dria) Hayden & Andrew Trovinger, Nicholas and Kellee Schultz, Matthew Andrews and his Fiancée: Holly Moore, Vivian Wingard, Noah Wingard. His great grandchildren, Brennen, Aaliyah, Claudia, Aubri, Nicholas, Lillian, Cain, Julianna, Landonn, Morris Frederick IV (V). He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Warren Hayes.

Marty lived an active and varied life with many interests. He was always a leader in whatever organization he joined. Marty will be missed by family and friends far and wide.

Marty was a lifetime learner, continuing to take classes even after earning his Master of Science, Management Information Systems from the University of Baltimore.  Marty was an adjunct professor at Anne Arundel Community College.

In his early years Marty rode horses, riding western and competing in barrel racing. He was a member of Toastmasters International and won many trophies. He was an active member of the Markland Medieval Mercenary Militia and participated in the reenactments of the Battle of Hastings on the University of Maryland College Park Campus. As an active member of the Venture Club, he owned and captained sailboats, including a lightning and a venture

Marty served in the Air Force for 3 ½ years. He was stationed in Kansas and in Canada.  As a Major, in the Lee Airport Civil Air Patrol squadron for many years in the 60's and 70's, he had his pilot's license and flew active search missions with the CAP.

Marty retired from Westinghouse after 30 years of service as an Electrical Engineer, working at both the Oceanic Division and the BWI Campus. After retirement he worked at the Radio Shack in Severna Park and GPA Hobbies in Crofton.

Marty was an active member of the local theatre community where he performed in over 60 shows over the last 40 years. He was active in 2 nd Star Productions, Pasadena Theater Company, Bowie Community Theatre, Colonial Players and others. He was the treasurer of 2 nd Star Productions for many years.  Some of his favorite roles were, Clarence in It's a Wonderful Life , Pellinore in Camelot , Sebastian from Nude with Violin , Bill from It Runs In The Family (WATCH nomination), Selsdon in Noises Off , Dr. Herbert Rosenthal from Nuts and King Sextimus in Once Upon a Mattress

Marty was honored to be known as "The Legend" in the International Radio Controlled Warship Combat Club (IRCWCC). IRCWCC is a group that builds remote control warships, armed with BB guns and shoot other ships to sink them. He was one of the founding members of the IRCWCC on the east coast in the early 80's and served in all positions on the executive board over the years. Marty attended every Nationals competition for 38 straight years. He won many awards in both this club and in precision steering competitions. In addition to his warships, Marty sailed model sailboats, Skipjacks and Bugeyes as well as 12 Meter racing boats at both Solomon's Island and St. Michaels.

Friends may visit Saturday November 9, 2019 from 1:00pm to 3:00 PM followed by a service at 3:00pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care,P.A. 495 Ritchie Hwy.
