IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martha
Wigglesworth
September 19, 1924 – June 22, 2017
Early on June 22, 2017 Martha Lake Parker Wigglesworth left us to be with the Lord. She was the daughter of the late Mary Blocker Strother Parker and Milton Parker II of Beaufort, South Carolina. Growing up in this beautiful small southern town in the low country was the background of the many stories that she loved to tell. Her love of good music came from her mother and Miss Rita Crofut, director of the Beaufort High School orchestra in which Martha played violin. At age 17 she entered the University of South Carolina at Columbia where she earned a BA degree in Fine Arts and English. Martha sang in the college Glee Club and joined the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. After graduating in 1945 she moved to Washington, D.C. to work at the National Gallery of Art where she was assistant to the Curator of Decorative Arts for almost nine years.
In 1952 she married Donald C. Wigglesworth, Sr. The couple moved to Severna Park, Maryland in 1955. Martha and Don were active Episcopalians of St. Martin's in the Field Episcopal Church. She was a member of the flower guild for many years.
Martha was an active member of the Anne Arundel County branch of the American Association of University Women. She also enjoyed the many friendships that she had as a member in the PanHellenic Club of Annapolis.
She is survived by Martha Anne Wakim (Dr. John E. Wakim) of Noank, CT.; Donald C. Wigglesworth, Jr. (Jean Wigglesworth) of Sacramento, CA.; David F.P. Wigglesworth (Gulmira Shakiralieva) of Washington, D.C.; Elizabeth D. Wigglesworth of Severna Park; M. Edward Wigglesworth (Heather Wigglesworth) of Stevensville, MD.; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
A Service of Thanksgiving will be held on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 10am in St. Martin-in-the-Field Episcopal Church, 375 Benfield Rd., Severna Park, MD 21146. Burial will be private in Beaufort, S.C.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Organ Fund, St. Martin's in the Field Episcopal Church, 375 Benfield Road, Severna Park, MD. 21146.
