IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mark
Tempestilli
December 26, 1957 – November 13, 2021
Mark Tempestilli, Capt. USN retired, 63, passed away on November 13, 2021 due to complications from a protracted battle with cancer.
Mark graduated at 16 from the Bronx High School of Science in 1974 and attended Purdue University for a year before arriving in Annapolis to join the Naval Academy's class of 1979. As usual, Mark was ahead of the game academically and split time his senior year at Navy and the University of Maryland, where he began work on his master's degree in aerospace engineering, securing that achievement in 1981. Amazingly he still found time to nurture a budding relationship with his future bride, Mary.
After receiving his NFO wings in Pensacola Florida, Mark embarked on a successful career in the P-3 community. His P-3 service took him, Mary and their young family to Brunswick, ME, Naples, Italy, Annapolis, and back to Brunswick as Commanding Officer of VP – 26. The Naval Academy once again called Captain Tempestilli to serve as the Deputy for Operations where he was instrumental in formulating the Academy's security response to the attacks on 9-11. When Mark retired in 2003, he and Mary settled in Arnold where he became active in the community and youth sports.
Mark was extremely proud of his service to the country and to the P-3 community. But that pride paled in comparison to the love he had for his family. For his wife of 41 years, Mary. For his daughter, Emily, who recently moved up the date for her wedding vows so that her dad could give her away to her new husband Jim. And for his son Joey, who has proven time and again to be a tower of strength in the face of adversity. For Mark, his family was most certainly the jewel in his esteemed journey on this good earth.
Mark is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Mary Tempestilli; daughter and her husband, Emily and Jim Rodowsky; son, Joey Tempestilli; mother, Joan Tempestilli; sister, Lisa Dolan; niece, Rebecca Dolan; nephew, Beau Dolan; numerous cousins, and innumerable friends that he made during his New York upbringing, his Navy journey, and in this greater Annapolis community. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Tempestilli and his brother-in law and fellow naval officer, Bob Dolan.
