Mark David Butler, beloved husband of Pamela Spearman and father of Jason and Andre (deceased) passed away January 29, 2023, in Annapolis, Maryland after a brief illness.

He was born December 20, 1956 in Long Beach, California and was the fourth of five children of Robert Henry Butler, Sr and Leola Evelyn (Moore) Butler.  The son of a career US Navy Dad, Mark was educated in Pittsburgh PA, Groton CT, San Diego CA and Alameda, CA. Mark graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Alameda in 1974. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 1978 and a Master of Mechanical Engineering degree from John's Hopkins University in 2004.

Mark enjoyed a distinguished professional career.  He joined Frieden Mailing Equipment Corporation after graduating from U.C. Berkeley and joined Westinghouse Corporation in Sunnyvale, CA in 1980. He worked at Westinghouse locations in Sunnyvale, CA, Vallejo CA, and Bremerton, WA where the Westinghouse Division was purchased by Northrop Grumman Corporation. In 1998 he transferred to the Oceanic Division of Northrop Grumman in Annapolis, MD. He was promoted to an Engineering Manager at the BWI facility in Linthicum, MD where he worked until his retirement in 2019.

Mark was loved by everyone he met and was known as a person who would do anything to help others. He loved mentoring young people and volunteered for "Engineer's Week" and "Project Lead the Way". After retirement, he volunteered as a driver for "Partners in Care" and joined the Knights of Columbus. He also volunteered with the "Our Daily Bread" ministry at St. John the Evangelist Church in Severna Park, where he was a parishioner. Despite having Multiple Sclerosis, Multiple Myeloma, and other health challenges, Mark never complained and tried never to let it slow him down.

Mark's greatest love was that of his family. He met the love of his life, Pamela Spearman in the Black Engineering and Science Students Association at U.C. Berkeley. They married in 1981. They enjoyed family life with their sons, Jason and Andre, and a very close relationship with all their extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father Robert, Sr., mother Leola, sister Maxine and son Andre. He is survived by wife Pamela Spearman, son Jason Butler (Alicia), grandson Marcos Butler, brother Robert, Jr.(Lois) and sisters Alicia Butler and Melissa Helms (Scott), step mother Marites, step sisters Leya Kerr and Kayleen (David), and many extended family members and friends.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, February 10 ^th at 10am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD. A joint Celebration of Life for Mark and Andre will follow at noon at Hellas Restaurant, 8498 Veterans Hwy, Millersville, MD.
