Marjorie Imogene Thompson, 93, of Severna Park, Maryland, previously of Lakeland, Florida and Mt. Sterling, Illinois, died peacefully on the 23rd of August, 2013 at Heartlands Assisted Living in Severna Park.

She was born on July 31st, 1920, in Versailles, IL to Foster and Lena Secrest. She married Otis Lyle "Bud" Kerley on March 10th, 1942, in Palmyra, MO, who preceded her in death on May 24th, 1972. They had two sons, Richard "Neal" Kerley, born March 10th, 1943, and "Kermit" Wayne Kerley, born September 8th, 1944, who died on June 25th, 2007. Both Bud and Marj were devoted parents to Neal and Kermit. In the late 1970's, Marjorie married Gale V. "Pete" Thompson, who preceded her in death on June 27th, 1986. Marjorie was also preceded in death by her only brother, Glen Secrest and his wife, Idelle. She is survived by Glen and Idelle's daughters, Kay, Carolyn and Rosemary and families.

Marjorie is survived by her son Neal, his wife, Kristiane, and their children, Erin, Shawn and Todd and his wife, Bethany, as well as Great Grandchildren Katrina, Kiara, Ariel and Jace. She is also survived by her Daughter-in-Law Nancy Kerley, of Lakeland, FL, and Nancy and Kermit's children Khristina (Richard) and their daughter, Zoé and newborn twins, Kaitlyn and Madilyn, and Stacie (David) and their children, Katie, Jacob and Wyatt. Her biggest joy in the last months of her life was being visited by Ariel, Katrina and Kiara, and baby Jace, Todd and Bethany's son.

Marjorie loved life and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her, in turn loved her almost immediately. She had a wonderful sense of humor, was kind and compassionate, and spread joy wherever she went. She worked side by side with her husband Bud on the farm in Timewell. Marjorie loved to attend flea markets, reading "The Democrat Message", watching her soap operas, "The Young and the Restless", "As the World Turns" and especially "Guiding Light", which started out as a radio program in the 1950's. She loved reading romance novels and was interested in the supernatural. Her favorite movie was "Gone with the Wind", plus Kevin Costner in "Robin Hood" and Simon Baker especially, in the television show, "The Mentalist". Marjorie enjoyed playing the piano in her younger years, and could even play "Nola". In high school, she played the trombone, which she still owned at the time of her passing. She had her lifelong dream fulfilled when Neal and Kristiane took her to Switzerland. She especially enjoyed sitting in sidewalk cafes in St. Gallen, watching the world go by.

Per Marjorie's request, cremation rites were accorded and there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401. The family especially would like to thank Hospice Nurse Karen and the wonderful staff of Heartlands Assisted Living for the compassionate care they provided to Marjorie.
