IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marjorie "Peggy"
Ann Reeves
February 15, 1940 – May 16, 2024
Marjorie Ann Reeves (Hudson) known affectionately as Peggy, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2024 at the age of 84 at her home in Annapolis, Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. She was born on February 15, 1940 to Edward Hudson and Anne Hudson in Salisbury, Maryland.
She attended Glen Burnie High School and the University of Maryland College Park where she earned a BA in English and Johns Hopkins University where she earned a Masters of Liberal Arts Degree.
Peggy had a joyful presence, a fervor for life, and loved her family and friends deeply. She was generous, kind, good-natured, with a sense of humor and wit she carried throughout her life. She met her husband, Bob, on a blind date in the spring of 1963 on a sailboat and they were married that November. Together, they spent 47 of their 60 years of marriage in their home in Annapolis, Maryland on the Bay, where they still reside. She dedicated many weekends and summers sailing with her husband in Annapolis and they traveled to England, Canada, and other destinations to race their International 14. In England, she won the Morgan Giles trophy as the first female finisher in the Prince of Wales Cup. She continued sailing competitively on the Chesapeake Bay with her husband for many years on several sailboats including their J105, A Train. She crewed in many regattas held at local yacht clubs including Severn Sailing Association, Annapolis Yacht Club and Sailing Club of the Chesapeake. Peggy also enjoyed dancing with Bob, spending time at their home in Bethany Beach, painting, reading, journaling, and walking with friends.
An English teacher for over 30 years, she inspired, nurtured, and touched the lives of her students through her love of literature, her zest for life, and passion for teaching. She challenged her students to be the best they could be inside and outside the classroom. Her favorite novel, amongst the many she taught, was The Great Gatsby.
Peggy began her teaching career at Overlook Elementary School, from there she went to the Baltimore City School System and taught at Francis Scott Key. The majority of her teaching years were spent in Anne Arundel County where she continued teaching English at Marley Junior High, finishing her long career in education at Broadneck High School, where she also served as faculty advisor to the school newspaper, The Tribruin. Peggy had an exceptional teaching career, with students and colleagues remaining in contact with her throughout the years.
Peggy is survived by her loving husband, Robert Thomas Reeves, her two daughters Janet Reeves Foote (Jim), and Perry Reeves Shoemaker (Jon), and seven grandchildren, Abigail, Rachel, Amelia, Ella, James, Sadie, and Katherine. She is predeceased by her mother and father, Anne Hudson (Wiest) and Edward Conquest Hudson Sr. and her two brothers, Edward Hudson Jr. and Art Hudson.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday June 13, 2024 at 1:00pm at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church 611 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Severna Park, MD 21146.
