Maria Lorraine Nicholls (née Heinrich)

Maria Lorraine Nicholls, 76, of Severna Park, passed away peacefully at home on February 27, 2026. Born on January 25, 1950, in Baltimore, Maria lived a life defined by devotion to her family, compassion for others, and a generous spirit that always placed the needs of those she loved above her own.

Maria was the beloved daughter of the late John and Florence Heinrich. She grew up in Baltimore and attended Mount de Sales Academy, where she formed lifelong friendships and strong values that guided her throughout her life.

On October 30, 1968, Maria married the love of her life, John Arthur Nicholls. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership, spanning more than five decades and forming the foundation of a close and loving family.

In her early years, Maria worked at the Millrace Tavern, where her warm personality and bright smile left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She later pursued her passion for caring for others by earning her degree as a Patient Care Technician from Anne Arundel Community College. Maria dedicated herself to service in her community through her work at Anne Arundel Medical Center, where she provided comfort, kindness, and skilled care to countless patients and families.

She had a special love for her dogs, who brought her daily companionship and happiness. Maria also cherished traveling, especially to the beautiful shores of Hawaii, as well as family trips to Dewey Beach and Rehoboth Beach. Those seaside memories became treasured traditions filled with laughter and togetherness. A lover of rock music, Maria found joy in its energy and spirit, a reflection of her own vibrant personality. She will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her strength, her loyalty, and the boundless love she gave so freely.

Maria is survived by her three sons, John Nicholls, Ryan Nicholls, and Eric Nicholls; and her cherished daughter, Aubrey Ghirardelli. Maria was a loving grandmother of 6 grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, John Heinrich and George Heinrich; her sister, Louise Kelly; and her lifelong best friend, Lynn Helm. Maria’s greatest joy was her family. She loved them fiercely and selflessly, always caring more for others than for herself.

Maria’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.
