Maria-Luise T. McCartney (known as Marlis), Age: 83, of Annapolis, MD, passed away March 3, 2015. Marlis was born in Hannover, Germany on Dec 4, 1931 to Julie and Friederich Bohne.

Marlis worked in a varying capacity in England before moving onto international banking with Commerz Bank in Hannover, Germany until her arrival in Minneapolis, MN in 1961. She worked for the Rotary Club there until marrying her first husband, Charles Crawford Tinsley, in 1963. They moved to Maryland in 1969 and settled in Severna Park in 1971 where Marlis raised two children as a stay at home mom. Marlis returned to work at the Maryland State Assembly in the mid 1980's before retiring to be a full time mother. After losing her first love in 1994, Marlis remarried in 1998 to James McCartney and moved from Severna Park to Annapolis.

In her later years, Marlis became a Dixieland jazz connoisseur who enjoyed travelling the world mostly by boat seeing the world's waterways, travelling to see family and friends in Germany, and visiting her children and grandchildren. After losing her second love in summer of 2013, she focused on being an independent retiree, most recently cruising the Mississippi on a paddle steamer, a lifelong dream of hers.

Marlis was active and had a full schedule being with friends and taking care of family, with continued plans to travel on more cruises and travelling to the south in the fall. She was an active member of Saint Martin's Lutheran Church of Annapolis, and over the years was a member of various groups including the Maryland Federated Garden Club, Newcomers Club, Et Cetera Club, Gourmet Dinner Club, Mahjong Group, and the Red Hat Ladies Society.

Marlis loved to cook and be with her friends and family. She will be remembered by her wonderful smile and her elegant and often progressive mode of fashion. Marlis had a glow about her wherever she went and brought out the best in people when she was around. Most importantly, she was loved by many and touched so many hearts in every place where she has lived. This is how we believe her family, friends, and everyone with whom she came into contact with will remember Marlis.

Her only daughter, Stephanie, survives Marlis with her husband, Tom Bolvin, and their two children in Lorton Virginia; and her only son, Alex, with his wife, Julie Tinsley, and their young son in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
