Margaret M. (Peg) Bednarsky, 93, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday, January 7, 2022, at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Born in Westfield, Massachusetts to Bridget (O'Hare) and John Russell. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Westfield at 16 then worked at one of the city's major industries until she married a young Marine Corps officer, Vincent Bednarsky, on December 30, 1950. Her first career was an officer's wife and stay-at-home mom. She devoted her time to raising their three children as the family moved to areas along the East Coast and Hawaii. She also involved herself in a variety of volunteer activities. Following Major Bednarsky's retirement from the Marine Corp in 1966 and his acceptance of a position at National Security Agency (NSA) the family relocated to Severna Park, MD. That move set the opportunity for the beginning of her second career… in the hospitality and lodging sector. Although that career started as a fluke filling in for a friend, she began as a temporary desk clerk at the Maryland Inn. She remained after her friend returned and following the sudden death of her husband in November 1970 began her career in the lodging industry. She advanced through to Front Desk Manager, Sales Manager, and ultimately to Innkeeper, overseeing the transformation to Historic Inns of Annapolis and becoming hotelier extraordinaire!

Peg's passions in life were her family first, and then her work family, and visitor families to the Historic hotels. She poured her heart and soul into making every guest feel at home during their stay at the Inns.

The close proximity of the properties to the state Capital has allowed the opportunity to welcome Legislators and Lobbyists into their "home-away-from-home" environment for those who stayed at the Inns for the 90 days of Legislative session. Each and every one became family. Earning the endearing name "House Mother"! Working with the lawmakers during legislative session through the terms of 7 Governors. During the more than 50 years she was with the Inns, Peg participated in may groups within the travel, tourism, and lodging field including: Tourism Board of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County where she was chairperson, in the Christmas in Annapolis Maryland Hotel & Lodging Association, had 2 terms as president of the MHLA board, was a Legislative Committee member, a Small Hotels and Inns Committee member, and on the Maryland's representative on the AH&LA board; The Maryland Tourism Council where she had 2 terms as president and 2 terms as Chairperson for the Governor's Conference on Tourism; the Restaurant Association of Maryland Board of Directors; and the American Hotel & Lodging Association where she was on the Board of Directors, Representing Maryland, in the Governmental Affair Committee, and the Small/Independent Property Advisory Council; Innkeeper/Manager of the year (twice); received of the Lifetime Achievement Award (sole recipient to date); received the Living Landmark Award (2013) City of Annapolis. Peg retired in July of 2019!

Her parents, her brother Thomas J. Russell, her beloved husband, Vincent H. Bednarsky, and beloved son, Thomas V. Bednarsky precede her in death. She is survived by her daughters Peggy O'Connor (beloved son-in-law Bill) of Glen Burnie, MD, and Mary Kay Black (beloved son-in-law Lee) of Greensboro, NC; her 7 granddaughters Kim Zehmer of Midlothian, VA, Chris Lloyd of Glen Burnie, MD, Kathleen Barr of Annapolis, MD Lyndsey Grubb of Greensboro, NC, Jessica Grubb of Phoenix, AZ, Mary Tusing of Stokesdale, NC, and Savannah Brigman of Burnsville, NC; her 5 great-grandchildren Austin Winkler, Mason Vickers, Avery Tusing, Avah and Selah Brigman; and many others who were extended family, especially Mike Radike.

A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Saturday, Jan. 15 and on ( *** Updated to Sunday, Jan. 16 from 12:00pm-2:00PM ***) at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A, 495 Gov. Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD. A mass will be held at 10:00am on Monday, January 17 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 689 Gov. Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD.
