Margaret Black Graves, age 98, died peacefully on November 17, 2016 at Fairfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Crownsville, MD. Margaret was born July 28, 1918, in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of Thomas Black and Clara Mae Walsh. She was a graduate of Western High school's class of 1937.
In 1941, Margaret married Bernard Wiley Graves Jr., and they established a residence in Baltimore and later moved to their final residence in Arnold, MD.
Margaret was a passionate member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Parish in Severna Park, MD. She served as a teacher at the parish school and helped lead Catholic Daughters Society and other organizations throughout her many years in the parish. After teaching at St. John's school, Margaret began working for Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold Maryland until retirement in 1988.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband Bernard and son Robert (Beverly) and survived by her daughter Mary Noon (Arthur (Otts), deceased), son Edward (Vicky) and son Thomas (Jennifer), daughter-in-law Judy Graves and Nephew Michael Black. Margaret has eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit on Sunday, November 20, 2016 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 10am at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment will take place at the Maryland Veteran Cemetery in Crownsville immediately following the Mass, 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd, Crownsville, MD 21032. A reception will then be held at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church on Cecil Rd. in Millersville, MD.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Anne Arundel County food bank or a charity of your choosing.
