Margaret Elizabeth French, 95, of Severna Park, died of natural causes Nov. 10 at her home.
Born Dec. 2, 1909, in Washington, D.C., Mrs. French earned a bachelor of science degree in home economics in 1931 and a master of education degree from the University of Maryland where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi women's fraternity. She also attended the Peabody Institute in Baltimore.
She taught high school in Washington and New Jersey and the former Andover High School in Ferndale. She was a substitute teacher at Severna Park High School after moving to Severna Park in 1962.
Mrs. French was a life member for 76 years of the American Association of University Women. Her memberships also included the Panhellenic Club, the Severna Park Book Club, the Bay Hills and Fort Meade Golf courses, the Retired Officers' Wives' Club and Historic Annapolis Foundation.
She enjoyed golf, bridge, music, reading and travel, and attended Anne Arundel Community College, taking courses in international relations. She was a member of the West Severna Park Community Association and a longtime member of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park.
Her husband, Navy Cmdr. John T. French, died in 1971.
Surviving are her daughter, Betsy French Hoffman of Severna Park; two sons, Thomas French of Severna Park and Robert French of Salisbury; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd., Severna Park. Burial will be on Dec. 12 at Arlington National Cemetery, where friends and family should meet at the Administration Building at 10:30 a.m.
