Margaret Douglas, 72, passed away peacefully at Compass Hospice in Centreville on July 22, 2017.
Margaret was born on November 5, 1944 in Somerset, KY to Esten and Arian Routen. She lived for over 30 years on Kent Island and traveled all over the world. She especially loved the Canadian Rockies, and Copenhagen, and once proudly got to drive a train in Wales. She was the unofficial Social Director for ISO-TC108, the International Standardization Organization Technical Committee for Mechanical Vibration and Shock. She was an accomplished photographer known for her use of color in her compositions. She was a Merit Scholar at Manual High School in Louisville, KY where she excelled in singing classical music.. She enjoyed beaches, and chocolate, and wine, and long talks with good friends, and for many years missed her West Highland White Terrier Keltie. She loved spending time and energy on her family, especially her grandsons, devoting countless hours to watching youth baseball and soccer, and attending school presentations and speeches, and planning and taking trips with the grandsons to show them the Canadian Rockies, the southwest U. S., Maine, and her home in Kentucky. When not doing that she could be found reading mysteries and science fiction and cartoons, and enjoying movies and television and Georgia O'Keefe and Andrew Wyeth.
Mrs. Douglas is survived by her husband Bruce, sister Nancy Whitney of Spokane WA, son Karl Behrendt, daughter in law Suzanne, and grandsons William, Jakob, Gregory and Michael. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Lee Behrendt, her parents, and her brothers Gregory Routen and Patrick Routen.
A Memorial service will be held on Thursday July 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Barranco & Sons,P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home 495 Ritchie hwy. Severna Park, MD 21146. A Graveside service to follow.
