IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marc F.
Brassard
October 5, 1962 – September 1, 2025
Dr. Marc F. Brassard, 62, passed away on September 1, 2025.
Marc was born to Roseabell (nee Racine) and Joseph (Gene) Brassard, Jr. on October 5, 1962 in Holyoke, MA. He was raised in Chicopee, MA with his five siblings and made many lifelong friends there.
Marc graduated from Chicopee Comprehensive High School before attending Springfield College graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1984 and Master of Science in 1988. He then earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed his residency in Orthopedics at the University of Alabama Birmingham. Marc continued his training with a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Total Joint Replacement in NYC, at the Insall-Scott-Kelley Institute at Beth Israel Medical Center. He had the unique opportunity to work with the NY Knicks and WNBA Liberty.
Marc spent his entire professional career at Anne Arundel Medical Center with Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Center beginning in 1999, specializing in knee and hip replacements. He made meaningful friendships with all of his partners and adored his operating team and joint floor team. One of his greatest passions was caring for his patients. He served the hospital in many capacities during his tenure, including the Medical Executive Committee and as Chief of Orthopedics.
Marc also served the community in various volunteer positions. Most dear to him was as the Broadneck HS football team doctor since 2006, alongside one of his best friends. He was also an advisor assisting in the formation of Future Doctors of America in 2012 which ultimately became "Future of Human Health and Medical Organization." Prior to this, he served on the local Arthritis Foundation for many years. His volunteer work allowed him to share his love for the community through medicine.
Marc would like to be remembered as a true competitor. He was passionate about cycling and was known to zoom around the neighborhood on his daily bike ride. One of his most rewarding accomplishments was completion of the Race Across America (RAAM) in 2014. Marc was part of a local team of cyclists and support team racing from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD. His team included many neighbors and his brother.
Marc was an avid sports fan of all levels. He cherished his time coaching and watching his children compete in everything from basketball, swimming, lacrosse and dance. He loved Boston based sports teams, Notre Dame football, Navy and Broadneck HS sports of any kind.
Marc was a social butterfly, he seemed to know people everywhere. He stayed connected with people from all chapters of life: his childhood best friends and neighbors, mentors from all levels of education, parents and kids from all sports teams and activities, and what felt like the entirety of the local community – especially AAMC.
Marc is survived by his loving wife, Melissa; beloved daughters, Kylie, Delaney and Brianna and husband Michael; and grandson Connor; Four brothers Ronald and wife Sandra, Michael (and Terri), Douglas and wife Ilse, and Kevin and wife Deborah and sister Darlene and husband Kevin Cortis; many nieces and nephews , grand nephews and nieces, and his two furbabies and koi fish.
