Marba Struble
Marba Abram Struble, 94, a resident of Severna Park since 1960, died of heart failure May 16 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mrs. Struble was born and reared in Chicago, where she graduated from Shurz High School. She attended Gibson Studio in Chicago, where she studied piano.
During World War II, she worked at the former Martin Aeronautics in Towson on circuit boards. Following the war, she was co-owner and operator of a laundromat in Endicott, N.Y. until 1951. Subsequently she was then co-owner and operator of the Clover Farm Store, a small country and variety store in Marley Park, which she ran for more than nine years.
In 1960, she and her husband, the late Russell W. Struble, who died in 1993, purchased the former Captain Tom's Marina on Cypress Creek, just off the Magothy River, and renamed it Strubles Marina. The couple owned and operated the Severna Park marina until 1988, closing the fuel pumps in 1977.
She was an active member of the Oakleigh Forrest Community in Severna, where she lived since 1988, and the Magothy-Chelsea Community Lutheran Church in Pasadena, where she played the organ for many years. She also volunteered at the North Arundel Convalescent Center in Glen Burnie, where she played the organ and arranged activities for the residents.
She was the resident organist for Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home for more than 20 years and was awarded the WJZ-TV gold salute for the love and devotion she gave to the community, according to Barranco family and staff members who added, "She was truly a great lady and will be missed by so many."
Her interests included oil painting, water painting, Chinese cooking, raising her pets and feeding ducks, and watching professional baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs.
Surviving are one brother, Edgar J. Abram of Johnson City, N.Y.; and two nieces. She was the sister of the late Alice Phillips, who died in 2005.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow and from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park, where funeral services will be held at noon. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie.
