Madeleine Hood Tierney of Ginger Cove 1937-2021
Madeleine passed peacefully with family the morning of October 21, 2021. She was reunited with her husband of 54 years, Joseph Leo Tierney III. She was the beloved daughter of the late Aubrey John Hood and Dorita Fischer Hood of Long Island, NY. She is survived by daughter Maureen Jordan (Molly) of Baltimore, and 3 sons Michael (Janet), Brian (Cathleen), and James (Allyson) of Arnold, and 7 beloved grandchildren Catherine, Christopher, Grace, Meaghan, Arden, Porter and Delilah.
Madeleine was an Artist, Gardener, Sailor, and Nurturer of all. She was happiest when surrounded by extended family at Sunday dinner or holidays. She was an accomplished stained glass artist, a member of the Maryland Stained Glass Guild and Creative Crafts Council in the 1970's and 1980's. She loved gardening and was a member of the Annapolis Horticultural Society and volunteered for many years at the Paca Garden and London Town Gardens. She was a certified Master Gardener. When she was not creating or digging, she spent many years sailing on the Chesapeake Bay with Joe, family, and friends. Joe and Madeleine were members of the Sailing Club of the Chesapeake.
Madeleine grew up on Long Island, New York and her family was one of the first to move into Levittown when her father returned from WWII. She was a graduate of New Paltz State Teachers College and worked as an elementary school art teacher. She lived with Joe first in the Army in Spokane, Washington, and later in the FBI in Memphis, Tennessee; Newport News, Virginia; and Laurel, Maryland. She was a 35-year resident of Rugby Hall in Arnold, Maryland. In her later years she lived at Ginger Cove in Annapolis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Wednesday November 3, 2021 at 11:00am at Holy Family Catholic Church 826 Central Ave. Davidsonville, MD.
