IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lynn T.
Hapchuk
October 28, 1944 – October 31, 2024
Lynn Tilley Hapchuk, 80, died peacefully on October 31, 2024 at the Charlestown Senior Living community in Catonsville, MD. She was born on October 28, 1944 in Whittier, CA to William and Jean (nee Cooper) Tilley. She and her parents moved to the Philadelphia, PA suburbs where she attended elementary and high schools. She was a "Big 10" post-secondary scholar receiving a bachelor's degree from Penn State, a master's degree from Wisconsin and a doctorate from Michigan State. She and her husband, John, were married in 1966 and originally lived in the Midwest. They later moved to Severna Park, MD in 1983 where she made numerous friends and enjoyed the Severna Forest neighborhood where they lived in the same house for over 40 years.
She had a passion for promoting equal rights for all people especially women and girls and was a lifetime member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) where she enlisted in its "Lobby Corps" providing relevant information to Congress for its legislative use. She was an avid quilter and a longtime member of the Annapolis Quilt Guild. Her numerous quilts (many award-winning!) expressed her creativity combining colors, shapes and themes. She enjoyed square-dancing, reading mystery novels, and watching TV programs such as Jeopardy and Rachel Maddow. She and her husband enjoyed traveling to foreign countries (often with her parents) visiting Canada, Mexico, England, France, Italy, and numerous eastern European countries including Russia and Ukraine.
Lynn is survived by her husband, her daughter Melissa Hyatt (husband John) of Tracys Landing, MD; her grandchildren Landen and Caitlin; her brother, John Tilley (spouse Mikie), nieces Beth and Joanna, nephew Chris, and many more relatives and friends.
Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 from 2 to 5 pm, with family and friends to share stories and memories at 3pm, at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146.
