Luise Cunningham, 98, a longtime resident of Arnold has died on January 4, 2026. Luise was born in Vienna, Austria on September 21, 1927, daughter of Josefa and Johann Hansmann. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 1985 by her beloved husband, Archer H. Cunningham as well as her brother, Hansi and sister, Elfriede “Elfi”.

Luise and Archie married in Vienna, and both left for the USA in 1948 to start their life together in Pennsylvania, where their son was born. They settled in Arnold, MD in 1952. Her husband designed their future retirement home and for many years committed weekends to Pennsylvania building their dream home in an apple orchard near the scenic countryside of Gettysburg, P.A. Luise worked for Nationwide Insurance Co. for 29 years and volunteered for 28 years at AAMC in Annapolis and 14 years for Chores and More, an outreach program.

Luise loved her adopted country, family and friends, her birds and especially spending time at her son’s home on the Eastern Shore. She will be lovingly remembered for her outgoing personality, always a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone she met. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Norma Cunningham & family, as well as nieces and nephews in Florida and Austria.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 10:45 am, in the Chapel, at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD 21032. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to Asbury United Methodist Church, 78 Church Road, Arnold, MD 21012.
