Patrick Dionne

Retired Army Lt. Col. Patrick Henry Dionne, 77, of Severna Park, died Jan. 13 at Genesis ElderCare Network Severna Park Center after a lengthy illness.

Born Sept. 20, 1928, in Madison, Maine, Lt. Col. Dionne graduated in 1953 from the University of Maine at Orono where he was the honor ROTC cadet.

He retired in 1973 from the Army after years as an infantry and public information officer, with tours of duty in Japan, South Korea, West Germany, Vietnam and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. During his service, he earned the Legion of Merit, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and two Overseas Service Bars.

Following discharge, he worked for the Maryland State Highway Administration as director of administration from 1973 to 1984.

An active member of the Severn River Lions Club, he served as District Governor of Multiple District 22A in the early 1990s and was named a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was also active in other Severna Park civic organizations.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Joan P. Dionne; one daughter, Mary Robertson of Keedysville; three sons, David Dionne of Pasadena, Charlie Dionne of Clarksville and Thomas Dionne of Middleburg, Va.; one brother, Valmond Dionne, and two sisters, Claire Tracy and Pauline Kimball, all of Skowhegan, Maine; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. Services will be at 12:45 p.m. March 1 in Fort Myers Chapel at Arlington National Cemetery followed by burial. Friends and family should meet at the chapel by 12:15 p.m.
