Loretta Sue Lugar, 77, of Annapolis, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025, at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She was born in Annapolis on December 4, 1947, to the late Walter F. and Betty J. Gies.

A true Annapolitan, Loretta grew up in Annapolis, attended St. Mary's Elementary School, and eventually graduated from Arundel High School. On May 12, 1978, she married the love of her life, James R. Lugar. Together, they raised their son, James R. Lugar, Jr. She worked as an administrative assistant and then as a computer resource teacher.  Loretta was very proud of her time teaching children at Cape St. Claire Elementary School.

Loretta was a devoted mother and volunteer. She was always cheerful and a friend to many. In her spare time, Loretta enjoyed watching NASCAR races and football games.

Loretta is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Stephen Gies.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, James R. Lugar, of Annapolis, MD; her loving son, James R. Lugar, Jr., of Severna Park, MD; her adoring grandson, Dylan Lugar; and three cherished siblings, Roseann Brown, of Vienna, VA; Raymond Gies, of Milford, DE; and Ronald Gies, of Towson, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Family and friends may visit on Sunday, March 9, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 11:00 am in St. Andrew by the Bay Roman Catholic Church, 701 College Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21409.

Interment will be private.
