Lise (Lisa) Jeanne Selby May 27, 1946 – October 19, 2025
Lise (Lisa) Jeanne Selby, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025. She was 79.
Lisa was born on May 27, 1946, in Saint Raphael de Bellechasse, Province of Quebec, in Canada and at the age of three moved with her family to Springfield, Massachusetts. She lived there until marrying the love of her life, Jeffrey Selby, on November 27, 1965. This November would have marked their 60th wedding anniversary — a testament to a lifetime of love, laughter, and partnership.
Lisa was the proud mom of three daughters — Kimberly Gauthier, Jennifer Dean, and Melissa Wienk — and adored her sons-in-law, John Dean and Christopher Wienk. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her nine grandchildren: Brendan and Nathan Gauthier; Andrew, Katie, Jonathan, and Jensen Dean; and Emerson, Elliot, and Barrett Wienk. She loved cheering them on from the sidelines, celebrating their milestones, and spending time with them.
Lisa is also survived by her sister, Claire Landry, and was predeceased by her parents, Leandre and Jeanne Gonthier, and her sister, Doris Hayward. She also leaves behind her sweet dog, Ollie, and several grand-dogs, who brought her so much joy.
While Lisa's children were young, she took immense pride in being a homemaker. She created a warm, welcoming home and made sure everything was just right for her family. Her house was always spotless, her love was constant, and dinner was on the table every night at 6:30 p.m. sharp. She dedicated herself to caring for her husband and daughters, finding happiness in the everyday routines that built a strong family. Lisa made each day feel special in her quiet, steady, and loving way.
As her children grew, Lisa enjoyed spending her free time on the tennis court, out shopping (she especially loved TJ Maxx), and traveling. Though she and Jeff travelled the world, her favorite destination was Aruba, where she loved to relax, "sunning her buns," as she liked to say.
Once Lisa became a grandmother — or "Nanny," as she was lovingly known — she took on the role with pride. She was always there to help with carpooling, babysitting, and of course, "spoiling them rotten." Being a grandmother was one of her greatest joys, and she poured her heart into every moment spent with her grandchildren.
Most who knew her knew that Lisa had been on blood thinners for the mechanical heart valve she received 30+ years ago. In November 2024, she suffered a major brain bleed after a fall and wasn't expected to survive. But in true Lisa fashion, she proved everyone wrong. After spending two weeks in the ICU and four weeks in a hospice facility, Lisa was "kicked out" — in the best possible way — to an acute rehab center to regain the strength she'd lost during the six weeks she was bedridden. She amazed every doctor, nurse, and therapist she encountered with her determination and spirit as she tried to recover what she'd lost. Though she was never able to regain enough strength to return home with Jeff, she never stopped fighting. Lisa spent the past year living in an assisted living community in Severna Park, continuing with physical and occupational therapy until just two weeks ago, when the fatigue of the past year finally caught up with her.
That year was a precious gift that Lisa and the family treasured. They took every advantage of their time together and filled it with family dinners, laughter, hugs, trips to TJ Maxx, "I love you's," and time together they will forever cherish. Lisa will be remembered for her warmth, humor, kindness, and the way she made everyone feel special. Her family will forever carry her love in their hearts.
Lisa's family will be celebrating her the way she lived — with love, laughter, and good company. Please join them on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Chartwell Golf and Country Club in Severna Park, Maryland
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation
