Linda Jane Smith (nee Meyer), 66, a resident of Homosassa, Florida (formerly of Severna Park, MD), died on September 18, 2009 at the Long Term Acute Care Hospital at Connerton, with her family by her side, following a long period of illness.
She was born on March 17, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in Huntley, Illinois. She relocated to Maryland in 1967 where she spent most of her life. In 2005 she moved to Florida where she enjoyed the sunshine and warm weather.
Linda was a loving wife, devoted mother, sister, and grandmother, past president of the Inner Wheel, a support group for Rotary International, thespian, retired accountant and former florist. She will receive posthumously The Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the Rotary Club of Homosassa Springs, to recognize her outstanding contributions to the ideals of Rotary. She was an avid reader, enjoyed music, theater, laughter and spending time with family, friends and her Dalmatian "Dutch".
She was preceded in death by her late father, Emil Meyer and late mother Jean Love Meyer.
Linda is survived by her husband of 25 years, Gordon L. Smith of Homosassa, FL; son James W. Miller and his wife, Tina Miller of Millersville, MD; brother Donald Meyer and his wife, Carol King Meyer of Holland, MI; step-daughter, Patricia Leimbach and her husband Brian Leimbach of San Clemente, CA; granddaughter, Kristina Leimbach of San Clemente, CA; grandson Bryant Smith of Crownsville, MD; daughter in law Amanda Smith of Crownsville, MD; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and host a remembrance gathering on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 1-3 pm with a Memorial Service to held at 300 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Gov. Ritchie Hwy in Severna Park, MD. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in memory of Linda Jane Smith to support the Severna Park Rotary Foundation.
