July 13, 1923 – July 31, 2015
Mrs. Lillie M. Darling, age 92, died July 31, 2015 following a short illness. She was a resident of Severna Park for more than five decades. Lillie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, David L. Darling; her parents William Wallace Robinson and Blanche Ann Robinson, three brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Louder of Severna Park and her son Donald Darling, daughter-in-law Beverly Darling and grandson Christopher Riggi, all of Akron, Ohio
Born July 13, 1923 in East Rainelle, West Virginia, Lillie grew up during the hard times and deprivations of the Great Depression and graduated from Rainelle High School. As war clouds gathered over America, Lillie heeded the call to serve her country. As a member of the greatest generation, Lillie served her country in World War II as a member of the United States Navy Women's Auxiliary Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) during 1943 and 1944.
After the war, Lillie lived a full and productive life as a wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed ten pin bowling participating in league competition for over three decades. She also enjoyed arts and crafts, becoming an expert in needle point and doll making. Lillie was a founding member of the College Parkway Baptist Church. Most of all she was a loving, kind and gentle person who positively affected many people. She will be greatly missed and always loved by her family.
Friends may attend a Visitation from 10:00 am-11:00 am on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the College Parkway Baptist Church, 301 College Parkway, Arnold, MD, with a Funeral Service following the visitation, beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville.
