Lillian Lavender, 92, of Severna Park and formerly of Baltimore, died of natural causes at Sunrise Assisted Living Center on May 2nd, 2009.
She was born Lillian Yellin on August 15, 1916 in Brooklyn, NY where she was raised. Mrs. Lavender had also lived in Staten Island and Oceanside on Long Island. She worked for Russecks Department Store in Brooklyn, then as a Teletypist for Sears Roebuck in Long Island, and as a Clerk Typist for the Division of Parole for the State of New York.
Art was her joy; she painted portraits, sculpted and drew in charcoal. She was very active in the Baltimore Jewish Community Center's Senior Arts Program. Mrs. Lavender also enjoyed writing poetry and doing crossword puzzles.
She was married on February 2nd, 1948 to Hyman E. Lavender. Mr. Lavender died on November 21, 2007. Surviving are two daughters Margo (Cecil) Woodard of Severna Park and Wendy (Ronald) Estes of Baltimore, four grandchildren; Corrin, Patrice and Jessica Woodard and Keith (Heather) Estes, and one great grandson, Hayden Estes. Mrs. Lavender was the sister of the late Abe, Sam, and Dave Yellin and the late Sue Selbst.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 10:45am at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122, Sunrise Beach Rd in Crownsville. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to ones favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at www.barrancofuneralhome.com
