Les was born on July 15, 1941, in Baltimore and died on August 16, 2026, following complications from a stroke and kidney failure. He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic High School in 1960. After graduation he enlisted in the Airforce and served in Japan, South Korea and Vietnam. Les went to trade school for computers and worked for First National Bank (M&T), the City of Baltimore, the state of Maryland and retired in 2008 from the NSA. Les liked to stay active and after retirement he became a bailiff for the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in 2008 and left the court in 2022. His parents, William and Elizabeth Metzger and his sister Karen preceded him in death. 

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Leslie, his son William (Bill), daughter-in-law (Amie), his grandchildren Shawn, Aidan, Tyler Duque and Kyle Duque. Also surviving his niece (Ashley) and nephews (Joseph, Parker and Tim). 

Les was an avid photographer and could often be seen with a camera in his hand. Les was actively involved in scouting from the time his son became a Tiger Cub through Bill’s Eagle Scout achievement and continued through 2024. He was a member of the Baltimore area council, 4 Rivers now River Hawk district. Les and Bill spent many years watching trains and frequently with to the B&O Museum and continued this hobby with his grandson Shawn.

There will be a viewing on Sunday August 30, 2026 from 2:00pm-4:00pm & 6:00pm-8:00pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie hwy Severna Park, MD 21146.
