Leonard Schneider, 102, of Severna Park, MD, died of old age after a long and wonderful life on November 28, 2015, lovingly surrounded by his family.

He was born on November 5, 1913 to his parents, Earnest and Clara Schneider in Jackson, Michigan and raised in Lansing.

He graduated from Michigan State University with a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1938 and went on to teach at the University of Wisconsin in Madison while working on a project for the United States Navy Department. With the outbreak of World War II, he was called up as a reservist in the United States Army to serve at Aberdeen Proving Ground in the Ordnance department as an instructor, and was then ordered to the Pentagon for the remainder of the war, where he left active duty as a Lt. Colonel, finally retiring from the US Army Reserve in 1964.

He married Katherine Gassner in 1947 who predeceased him. He worked as a consultant to Fairchild Industries on Long Island and next, he traveled to Detroit to work for the Pontiac Division of General Motors for a short time. Returning to Maryland, his career continued at David Taylor Naval Research and Development Center on the North Severn Naval Base in Annapolis until he retired at age 66. As a registered Professional Engineer, he would occasionally function as a consultant and expert witness.

He was a member of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council and enjoyed singing in the choir. He also sang in the Annapolis Chorale, the Anne Arundel Retired Teachers Chorus, the Immanuel Lutheran Church Choir and other groups. Previously, he was President of the congregation at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glen Burnie during construction and completion of the current church on Oak Manor Rd. While attending St. Paul's he served as the representative for Boy Scout Troop 857 to the Baltimore Area Council and later as a liaison between the Council and other Troops.

He is survived by his son, Steven and Steven's wife Amy Schneider of Severna Park, MD, his sister-in-law, Eloise Haubein and her husband, Clovis of Lockwood, MO, and brothers-in-law, Charles White of Silver Spring, MD, and Bruce Andrews of Westminster, MD, his granddaughters, Julie and Camille, and grandson, Craig and Craig's wife, Holly.

Friends may visit at Barranco & Sons, PA Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, in Severna Park on Thursday, January 7 from 6 pm-8 pm. A memorial service will be held at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 400 Benfield Rd. Severna Park, MD on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 1:30 pm with interment following.
