Lee J. Sosnowski, 84, of Severna Park, died of kidney failure Sept. 3 at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Del.

Mr. Sosnowski was born April 10, 1922, in Baltimore and earned a degree in political science from Johns Hopkins University. He worked at the Glenn L. Martin Co. making bombers for the military during World War II. He also was an independent supplier of carrier pigeons for the war effort.

After the war, he became the Anne Arundel County chief of roads, overseeing the paving of many of the county's previously gravel roads. He was also the county's first federal aid coordinator, where he researched and applied for federal grants to fund county projects. He served as a delegate to the Maryland Constitutional Convention. His interests included politics, and he managed campaigns for many local Democratic candidates.

He served as district commissioner of the Annapolis Pony Club and later as regional supervisor for Maryland. He was a member of the Carrollton Manor bowling league and the Severna Park Gourmet Club. In his later years he returned to his love of racing pigeons with the Curtis Bay Pigeon Club. He also loved to travel.

Surviving are his son, Dr. Kenneth Sosnowski of Salem, Va.; two daughters, Dr. Janice Sosnowski-Nichol of Camden, Del., and Dr. Karen Phillips of Bel Air; five grandchildren; his mother, Victoria Sosnowski, 102, of Brooklyn Park; and one sister, Doris Hurman of Brooklyn Park. On Oct. 24, 1943, he married Irene Sienkielewski who died in 2000.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to John Archer School, 100 Thomas Run Road, Bel Air, MD 21015 or the U.S. Pony Club, 4141 Ironworks Parkway, Lexington, KY 40511.
