Lee Lloyd Schmidt
July 20, 1953 - November 15, 2025
Lee Lloyd Schmidt, age 72 of Arnold, passed away on November 15, 2025, at Hospice of the Chesapeake after a four-year battle with cancer and a myriad of other health issues. Lee was born July 20, 1953, in Miami, Florida, to Lloyd and Ann Barbara (Carlier) Schmidt. Lee is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Barbara Schmidt, his in-laws, Dale and Marie Winters, his brother-in-law Don Evans, and his sister-in-law Marilyn Heim.
After high school, Lee joined the US Army in 1972 and served as a military intelligence collector for 20 years. After retiring from the Army as a Sergeant First Class, he worked as a contractor, then as a Department of the Army civilian assigned to NSA for an additional 22 years. A man of many talents, Lee not only worked as an intelligence officer, but he could also play music by ear, had a beautiful singing voice, and could recreate any dish he tried with his own special panache (with or without a recipe). Lee and Sandy also opened their home by hosting numerous foreign exchange students throughout the 90's. After his second retirement, he served as a secretary on the boards of two local nonprofits: Pasadena Seniors, Inc. and Belvedere Community Association. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, taking cooking classes, participating in paint nights, and attending live music events featuring his favorite 60's/70's era musicians with his sweetheart by his side.
Lee is survived by his wife, Sandy; his son Colby and his wife Cheryl, his daughter Katrina Zimmerman, his sisters Gail and Christina, his nieces Keri and Lisa, and his grandchildren Nico, Garrett, and Victor. He is also survived by his aunt Caroline Schmidt, of Montvale, New York; his cousin, Eric Schmidt, and his wife Jennifer of Long Island; and their three sons. Lee loved being surrounded by his extended family and his friends, such as Lee Reid and Benjamin Winstead, who became family through his generous nature and huge heart, the complete number of whom would be too numerous to list here, but who were no less important to Lee and his family than the individuals specifically named.
