Lawrence P. Spellbring, Jr., 81, a long time resident of Annapolis died January 15, 2013 after a brief illness.

Born October 30, 1931 to the late Lawrence P. Spellbring, Sr. and Edna Murphy Spellbring in Washington, DC, where he attended Woodrow Wilson High and then enlisted in the United States Navy from 1951-1955. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy after serving on the USS Coral Sea in the Mediterranean Sea with the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Navy Occupational Service Medal. Upon his discharge, he was employed at GE as an appliance repairman. From 1959 through 1965 he was self employed. Larry later became a Building Engineer at The World Bank in Washington, D.C. where he retired in 1986.

During his younger years, Larry raced drag cars at 78-80 Dragway. He also enjoyed hunting, camping, motorcycle riding, sailing, and fishing with his friends. Larry enjoyed sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and the inner coastal waterways with Singles on Sailboats out of Annapolis. In his later years he enjoyed spending time with his five children, eleven grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his sister Elizabeth Adkins and his girlfriend Janice Kellerhouse.

He is survived by his former wife Barbara Pierce, five children, Janet Councill, Mark Spellbring, Susan Clow, Betsy Hoffman and Barbara Dowling; four son-in-laws, Craig Councill, Michael Clow, Henry Bruce Hoffman and Bruce Dowling and one daughter-in-law, Jessica Spellbring, eleven grandchildren, Shawn Klakring, Brett Spellbring, Dannielle Rodrigue, Jennifer Slauson, Michael Clow, Katelyn Clow, Sarah Hoffman, Kristin Hoffman, Chad Dowling, Zack Dowling and Zoe Nardo and one great grandson, Cameron Rodrigue. Additionally Mitzi Bernard, Dan Nardo, daughter and son-in-law of the late Janice Kellerhouse; Brother-in-law Randall Adkins; nieces Rose Evner, Michelle Cates and Barbara Sue Adkins.

A Memorial Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 from 2-4 pm at Barranco and Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park. A Memorial Service and Interment will be on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 10:00 am in MD Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Hwy, Annapolis, MD 21401.
