With great sadness and endless amazing memories, the family of Larry Gesner of Severna Park, MD announces his passing on September 17, 2024.

Born in New York on July 9, 1958 to Susan Gesner Danziger and Barry Gesner, Larry was an incredible father, husband, son, brother, uncle, friend and a talented attorney known for his sharp wit and even sharper mind.

Larry graduated from The George Washington University with a degree in Finance in 1980 and went on to get his law degree in 1983 at Georgetown University, where he met his loving wife of 39 years, Beth. Over four decades, he built a successful and robust legal practice focused on structuring and negotiating complex financial transactions. Larry started his career at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley and McCloy (now Milbank LLP) before moving to Melrod, Redman & Garten in 1990. He then practiced at Arter & Hadden from 1993-2002. Larry joined Venable, LLP in 2002 and spent the last 22 years with the firm based in its Washington, D.C. office. Larry held various management positions at Venable, including leading the Business Division, and serving as the Co-Managing Partner of the firm since 2016.  Larry embodied the heart and soul of Venable and cherished his colleagues who he considered to be family.

Larry was wise, level-headed, caring, had an incomparable sense of humor and an immense love for his family.  He relished the simple things in life: good fajitas, chocolate Blizzards from Dairy Queen, and boat rides where he was not responsible for being the captain. But perhaps most importantly, Larry was an incredibly proud father who adored his kids and was their biggest supporter. Over the years, Larry could often be found pacing up and down the lacrosse field sidelines telling Meg to 'shoot low', following Burt hole-to-hole on the golf course fist pumping when a long putt dropped, and meticulously recording Severna Park Green Hornets baseball stats. He could also be heard yelling 'one time' at the bowling alley and unapologetically cheering on his racehorses.

Larry is survived by his wife Beth Gesner; his two children, Meg (Gesner) Shernisky (Tommy) and Burt Gesner; his mother, Susan Gesner Danziger; his two brothers, Mark Gesner (Margaret) and Matt Gesner (Victoria); and his nieces, nephew, and entire extended family. He was predeceased by his father, Barry Gesner.

A gathering to celebrate Larry's life will take place on Saturday, October 19th at 12:00pm at the Civiletti Center at Venable LLP, 600 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC 20001 where friends and family are encouraged to share their favorite stories and enjoy good food.

In honor of Larry, may you be dealt a winning hand at the poker table, enjoy life's simple pleasures and cherish the company of your own family.
