IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kenneth
Joy
May 4, 1957 – October 28, 2021
Kenneth C. Joy made his debut on May 4, 1957 in Baltimore, Maryland. A loving husband and phenomenal father, Ken spent his final days in the presence of his adoring family before passing away at his Severna Park home on October 28, 2021.
Ken is survived by the holder of his hand and wife of 35 years, Elizabeth Joy (Beam); a son who made him immensely proud, Ryan Joy and wife Corey (Guthridge); and the light of his life, daughter Amanda Joy. He's also survived by his mother, Mary Ann Joy, his mother-in-law Jeanette Beam, numerous in-laws, nieces & nephews, and his favorite granddog, Holly Joy.
A 1975 graduate and standout baseball player at Mount Saint Joseph High School, Ken went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Advertising & Design from The Maryland Institute College of Art in 1979. While he was reelin in the years, Ken strummed for a band named Moxie, painted iconic portraits, and never met a pick up basketball game he didn't like.
His stellar career in advertising began at Vansant Dugdale in Baltimore where he was also a slugger for the company softball team. Ken went on to ride Captain ride with a move to Atlanta, Georgia to become Associate Creative Director for nationally renowned WestWayne. While he wasn't immersing himself in his childrens' athletic pursuits, Ken was racking up advertising awards including Communication Arts, The One Show, National Addys, and Show South. Ken's career path eventually led back to Maryland to be closer to family.
Ken is preceded in death by his father Charles Joy, his brother David Joy, and his father-in-law Frank Beam; who undoubtedly greeted him with a seabreeze and a ring side seat for watching over the family.
A lover of hotdogs, steamed crabs, perfectly packed coolers, and worn in baseball caps, one of Ken's simple pleasures in life were family cookouts where he served as rock and roll phone DJ and the quiet disher of wisdom. Mr. Fix It's pastimes over the years also included excelling as graphic artist on school lunch bags, strumming guitar to wake his children up for school, going on donut runs as a Saturday morning tradition, and being the best ball throwing Gpop in the park for his Holly girl.
