On July 21, 2022, Ken Pensyl passed away while on vacation at Bethany Beach, Delaware. At the time, Ken was surrounded with family after a joyful celebration uniting generations of close relatives. Ken was born in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. He was fortunate enough to meet the love of his life, Julia Pensyl, in Junior High. They started dating while attending Shamokin High School, and graduated together. He went on to receive a Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering from Penn State University. After graduating, Ken moved to Maryland to work for MDOT as a Highway Engineer. He then sought new challenges and began working at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources as a Water Resource Engineer in the Sediment and Stormwater Division, which was later restructured as the Maryland Department of the Environment. He worked at MDE as a Program Manager for the Sediment, Stormwater, and Dam Safety Divisions from 1989 to 2011. Following that, Ken worked locally for the Anne Arundel County Bureau of Watershed Protection and Restoration as a Program Manager. Ken dedicated more than 40 years to government service and protecting precious natural resources.

In addition to being a dedicated public servant, Ken was a devoted father, husband, son and brother. Ken actively volunteered as a coach for his daughters' field hockey and lacrosse teams. Fondly known as Coach Pensyl, Ken took great pride in helping his daughters and their teammates develop their skills and watching as their love of the sport and close bonds grew. Ken's devotion to his family and selflessness was endless. He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Julia Pensyl; his three daughters, Heather Pensyl, Ashley Pensyl and Emily Lally, and son-in-laws Jon Gross, Andrew Lally, and partner Jason Hicks; his mother Alice Pensyl; his sister Terre Bonshock; and nephews and neice. Ken was predeceased by his father Leon K. Pensyl, II.
