Kay Reininger
Kay L. Reininger, 58, a resident of Severn for 15 years, died of complications from breast cancer Oct. 15 at home after a seven-year illness.
The daughter of the late Horace and Eleanor Curtis, Mrs. Reininger was born May 31, 1949, in Jackson, Miss., and reared in Houston and San Antonio, Texas. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and a master's in education from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
She was a special education teacher in the Anne Arundel County public school system since 1995, at Pasadena Elementary School and then at the county central office. Previously she taught for the Department of Defense school system in Stuttgart, Germany. She was also a military wife.
She was a member of the Severna Park United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, retired Army Lt. Col. Reid A. Reininger, whom she married April 2, 1971; two daughters, Joanna Carlson of Chicago and Melanie Reininger of Annapolis; one brother, Perry Curtis of McKinney, Texas; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Burial will be held Oct. 31 in Arlington National Cemetery, with friends and family meeting at noon at the Administration Building.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401 or to a charity related to cancer of one's choice.
