Katheryn Sutton
Katheryn L. Sutton, 90, of Chesapeake Beach, died of Alzheimer's disease Nov. 25 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Severna Park.
Born March 3, 1914, and raised in Sac City, Iowa, Mrs. Sutton lived in several small towns in Iowa, and then in Ames, Iowa, Fridley, Minn., and Greenville, N.C. She graduated from Morningside College in Iowa and held her first teaching job in a one-room schoolhouse in Iowa for $65 a month.
On May 31, 1941, she married Eugene Sutton while both were teaching in Postville, Iowa. She taught art, English and speech for many years and obtained a master's degree in art education from the University of Minnesota.
She traveled extensively including to Thailand, China and South America.
Mr. Sutton is now deceased.
Surviving are two sons, Jeff Sutton of Chesapeake Beach and Gary Sutton of La Jolla, Calif.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; one brother, Robert Long of Kansas City, Mo.; and two sisters, Dorothy Long of Falls Church, Va., and Margaret Eaton of Hilton Head, S.C.
No formal services are planned. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Tominium, MD 21093.
