Katherine Page Solano, 56, resident of Severna Park, died at her home Wednesday after a long illness. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of Frances Ruth Page and the late Kenneth William Page.
Katherine graduated from Ithaca College and studied violin with George Orner and Yung-Ku Ahn. She continued her studies at the University of Maryland and the Peabody Institute. She taught music in the Anne Arundel County Public Schools for over 30 years. Katherine was active in the local music community all of her life. While in high school, she was a member of the Annapolis Symphony under the direction of her father, Kenneth Page, and continued playing with the Symphony under the direction of Leon Fleischer.
Katherine was also one of the founding members of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, the Mostly Baroque Ensemble, the Columbia Chamber Orchestra, and most recently, the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra, where she was also the first concertmaster. She attended the Pierre Monteux School for several summers. She served on the Board of Directors for both the Annapolis Symphony and the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra, and was a key figure in fundraising for the arts in the Anne Arundel County Public School system.
She is survived by her husband, Rumano Solano, and her son, Diego Thomas Solano. She is also survived by her mother, Frances Ruth Page, and her sisters, Susan Byrne, Barbara McCoy, and Laura Page.
The family will receive friends at Barranco & Sons Funeral Home at 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD, on Friday, September 25, from 4pm to 6pm. A memorial concert is being planned for October.
