Katherine Quinn Janosek, of Crofton, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home on July 2 , 2010, surrounded by friends and family. Kaye had fought a courageous battle against cancer for the last 3 ½ years. Born in New York City, she grew up in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and graduated from Paramus Catholic High School in 1972. Kaye graduated summa cum laude from Montclair State College in New Jersey in 1976 and immediately began her graduate studies at the University of Maryland, College Park. Upon attaining a Master of Arts in Motor Learning, Kaye was appointed the first female instructor in the U. S. Naval Academy's physical education department.

Kaye rose to an associate professorship and established the first Women's Gymnastics Club at the Naval Academy. For these efforts, she was awarded the first Navy N for Women's Gymnastics. After the Naval Academy, Kaye started with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1982. From 1982 to 1986, she served as a special agent in the FBI's Dallas, Washington D.C., Baltimore and New York City offices.

Katherine lived for twenty years with her family in Indian Hills in Arnold, where she was an active member of the community, with terms on the community association board as both vice-president and president. She also lived with her family in England for 3 ½ years, where she traveled extensively through the British Isles and Europe.
Returning to her home in Indian Hills in 1996, Kaye resumed her career in investigative services. She returned to full time Federal service in 2000 at the U.S. Census Bureau. From there, she transferred to the Internal Revenue Service and finally to the Department of Homeland Security. At the time of her death, she was serving as DHS's Director of Personnel Security and had recently been nominated for promotion to the Senior Executive Service.

Katherine is survived by her three sons, Daniel Janosek, Andrew Janosek and Jeffrey Janosek, all of Crofton, Maryland; by her parents, James and Katherine Quinn of Arnold, Maryland; by her two sisters Carol Herzog of Lodi, New Jersey and Margaret Devlin of Stamford, Connecticut; by her two brothers James Quinn of Morristown, New Jersey and Edward Quinn of Mountainside, New Jersey; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and Friends may visit Monday July 5, 2010 from 5:00PM - 9:00PM at Barranco and Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church 701 College Pkwy. Annapolis, MD 21401 at 10:00AM on Tuesday July 6, 2010. Interment in Lakemont Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to The Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, 100 N.
