Katherine V. ("Kate") Collins passed away peacefully at home in Severna Park, Maryland on May 10, 2016. She was 96 years old. The daughter of Irish immigrants, a native of Brooklyn and later, a long-time resident of Westbury, New York, Kate was married for 74 years to William J. ("Bill" or "Red") Collins, a World War II veteran, who passed away in August 2015. Kate and Bill were devout Roman Catholics who were devoted to their family.
Kate was a loving mother to five sons: William Jr. (Patricia), Michael (Nancy), Joseph (Anita), Gerard (Cindy), and Peter (Cindi). Her sons and their devoted spouses gave Kate and Bill 18 grand and great-grandchildren. Kate is also survived by three siblings: Frances Nolan and Joseph Norton of Long Island, New York, and Eileen Catalano of New Jersey. She was predeceased by sisters May Dunne, Anne Timoney, and brothers Edward, John, and Peter.
Family and friends may visit on Thursday, May 19th, 2016 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, May 20th, 2016 at 10:00am at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment will take place immediately following the Mass in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd., Crownsville, MD 21032.
In lieu of flowers, Kate asked that people "send donations to feed the hungry or any mission to help the poor."
