Katharine Weis Dougherty, 77, resident of Millersville, Maryland died on August 28, 2014, at her home after a lengthy illness.

She was born on February 16, 1937 in Baltimore and raised in the Waverly neighborhood just north of 33rd Street. She attended Elementary School #51, Roland Park Junior High School, Eastern High School and McCoy College of the Johns Hopkins University. In her professional life, she served in the administrations of both the Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. In her personal life she enjoyed being with friends and family, playing competitive word games, watching the Orioles and Ravens, and spending quiet time at the ocean.

Katharine was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward C. Dougherty of Sheet Metal Worker's International Association Local 100, who passed away in 1988, her brother Theodore D. Weis, her parents G. Theodore Weis and Gladys D. Weis and her grandparents Theodore P. Weis, former Sherriff of Baltimore, and Amelia D. Weis.

She is survived by her son Michael P. Dougherty of Baltimore, brother-in-law Stanley A. Dougherty and his wife Patricia A. Dougherty of Linthicum, nephew Bryan A. Dougherty of Millersville and niece Stephanie A. Kormanis of Bel Air.

Known for her strength, kindness, endurance, persistence, loyalty and especially her humor, Katharine is mourned by all those she touched and with whom she laughed.

Friends may call at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, on Tuesday, September 2nd, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 3rd at 11am. Interment to follow at Lorraine Park Cemetery.
