Karen Bishop Peiffer, 67, Severna Park, Maryland
Survived by her husband Ronald A. Peiffer and their son Thomas A. Peiffer, his wife Kathleen Eyler Peiffer, and their children, Jeremy Thomas Peiffer and Delaney Helene Peiffer of Millersville, Maryland. She is also survived by a brother, Stewart Bishop and his wife Patricia of South Mountain, Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Peiffer was born in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania on October 28, 1947 to Donald B. and Fay C. Bishop (both now deceased). She graduated from Waynesboro Area High School in 1965 and received a Bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1969 from Shippensburg University. She earned her Master's degree in Reading from Loyola University of Maryland in 1982. Mrs. Peiffer began her career as a third grade teacher at Pasadena Elementary School in Anne Arundel County, Maryland in 1969. She subsequently taught at two Glen Burnie, Maryland schools-- Richard Henry Lee Elementary (first grade) and Rippling Woods Elementary (third grade). She also worked as the Reading Specialist at Rippling Woods Elementary School, at Germantown and Hillsmere Elementary Schools in Annapolis and at Crofton and Crofton Woods Elementary Schools. Mrs. Peiffer retired from Anne Arundel County Public Schools in 2006.

She was active with the Anne Arundel Reading Council and the State of Maryland International Reading Association for many years and held several leadership positions in both organizations. Mrs. Peiffer was also busy with Alpha Delta Kappa service sorority, having served in various officers' positions in the Kappa chapter. She was well known for her artistic interest, producing a number of oil and water color paintings over the years, but in recent years she channeled her artistic interest into the production of handmade greeting cards with which she delighted her many family and friends on special occasions. In her retirement, she often welcomed opportunities to share her love of books and art with her grandchildren.

Visitation is planned for Sunday, May 3rd at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home in Severna Park from 3 to 5 pm and 7 to 9pm. A memorial service is set for Monday, May 4th at 2:00 pm at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church. Private interment will be at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville.
