Karen Lee Layton, 67,a resident of Severna Park, died Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Mandrin Hospice House in Harwood, Maryland.
Karen was born August 26, 1945 in The District of Columbia. One of four children, she was raised in Temple Hills, Maryland and lived in Severna Park, Maryland for the past 27 years. She was an elementary school teacher for Prince George's County and an assistant teacher at Chesapeake Academy in Anne Arundel County for many years. She was a devoted mother who ensured that her family's well being was the focus of her life. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth A. Seganish.
She is survived by her husband and soul mate of 46 years, Daniel O. Layton; their three daughters, Laura E. Layton, Kathleen M. Nutter, and Sara M. Fretwell, all of Severna Park, Maryland; 5 grandchildren, Emily, Madison, and Zachary Nutter, and Ella and Graham Fretwell; and her father, William E. Seganish of Temple Hills, Maryland.
Friends may visit on Tuesday July 2, 2013 from 2-4:00 pm & 6-8:00 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146. Services will be held on Wednesday July 3, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Funeral Home chapel.
