In June of the twenty second year
Of the century just past
With nine children it became quite clear
This girl child would be the last
They called her "June Bug" so many times
She thought that it was her name
Her granddad was a medicine man
So into the woods they'd go
To find the miracles of the land
In places where they did grow
She learned the truth that wonders sublime
Were worth more than wealth and fame
Her eye was caught by a neighbor boy
Who would walk the hills all alone
As he walked by, her heart was filled with joy
She dreamed when he'd be her own
She followed him to a college town
leaving her family behind
In a pastry store she set her snare
To catch this sweet-toothed young man
Right next door to the woodwork shop where
He made beauty with his hands
later that year the wedding bell sound
Echoed within both their minds
Two children they had in that small town
Then they moved to Baltimore
like so many of those all around
To help in the coming war
Five more children came to bless their days
In this strange metropolis
The years they passed, as years always do
And she lost her man, her love
Her siblings went to their rewards too
In the heavens up above
Although God has mysterious ways
June accepted all of this
Named "Rachel Alena" at her birth
A name few would ever hear
Her soul ascends to heaven from-earth
As angels her welcome cheer
And God sitting on his glorious throne
Says: "Well done June. Welcome home"
