Judith Thompson Glatzel, 73, of Severna Park, Maryland, passed away on January 29, 2016 at Midtown Campus, University of Maryland, after a long illness following a heart tricuspid valve replacement. She was born on October 6, 1942 in Moundsville, West Virginia to the late Dr. Newell Thompson and Mrs. Daisy Starcher Thompson.

She attended West Virginia University, graduating with a BA in music education and a Masters of Education from Towson University. She spent her career teaching music, mainly at George T. Cromwell Elementary in Anne Arundel County. Mrs. Glatzel created amazing memories for students throughout her career. Students loved her patience, gentleness, personality, and always finding a way to connect with them.

Programs ranging from It's a Bug's Life for Elfis for a Winter Concert, to Aladdin, Little Mermaid, and The Sound of Music (all in one night's performance) to The Lion King. There are so many other wonderful productions throughout the years to mention them all. The music and chorus was always front and foremost. But along with these, Judy always included theater. Costumes, set design, and props were an integral part of each performance. She retired in July 2006. While teaching music, Judy met a fellow music teacher, Ronald Glatzel. They were married on June 29, 1968 in Moundsville, West Virginia. They recently celebrated their 47th anniversary. Judy enjoyed promoting Gerald E. Henn Workshop baskets, collecting antique chests and glassware. She stayed connected to family and friends by sending greeting cards of all varieties.

Judy is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Glatzel and Judy's sister, Sara Blum, Sara's husband Bob Blum; Ellen Pugh Mason, and husband Pat Mason and sons John and Will; Jane Pugh Hamilton; Marianne Marie Saville; Capt. Ian Saville, and wife Eri Saville and son Lewis; Dianne Butts and daughter Allison; John Mark Andrews, and wife, Cindy, and children Nathan, Joy, and Zachary; Imogene Starcher; Mr. Glatzel's sister Marlene Walchli and husband Richard; and many friends and former students.
