Judge Robert N. Lucke, Sr.

Robert Numsen Lucke, Sr., a resident of Severna Park, MD, died on Sept 16, 2008 at The Peartree House, Pasadena, MD, where he had resided for nine months. Previously, he resided at Charlestown Retirement Community, Catonsville, MD from 1998 to 2006.
Judge Lucke was born in Washington, DC on March 1, 1924 to George Albert and Jesse Numsen Lucke, Sr. After living in Baltimore from 1928 – 1930, the family moved to their summer home in Round Bay, Severna Park in 1939. He lived nearly his entire life in Anne Arundel County. He was married to Lois Klakring Lucke, of Annapolis, MD for 50 years, who died in 1998.
Upon graduating Annapolis High School 1943, Judge Lucke enlisted in the US Army, July 1943 and was seriously wounded in France—earning a Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster. He graduated from University of Maryland in 1950, was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He worked in the Investigative Dept., US IRS from 1950 - 1953, after which he assumed the position of Agent-In-Charge of the Alcohol Beverage Enforcement Unit, Maryland Dept. of Treasury until 1962. Judge Lucke graduated from University of Maryland Law School in 1959, where he was a member of the Delta Theta Phi Law fraternity. He was a founding partner in the law firm of Smith & Lucke from 1962 - 1977, at which time he was appointed Judge, Maryland District Court. He retired from the Court in 1991, but continued to sit part-time during retirement.
He was a founding member of St. Martin's-in-the-Field Episcopal Church in Severna Park and served as a Vestryman and as Assistant Superintendent of the Church School; past president of the Severna Park Rotary Club; past YMCA Board Member and served in other volunteer organizations. He was a 57 year member of the Free Masons, Glen Burnie Lodge #213, and Boumi Temple, and was a co-founder of the Severna Park Old Timers Club.
Judge Lucke is survived by: one sister, Ella Louise Greenhood of Silver Spring, MD; two daughters, Jennifer Lucke Patton, and husband James of Severna Park, MD; and Suzanne Lucke Turner, and husband Richard of Salisbury, MD; and one son, Robert N. Lucke, Jr., and wife Lisa, of Walkersville, MD; seven grandchildren, Cleveland Hyatt, Emily Hyatt, Suzanne Hyatt, Katy Turner, Molly Turner, Erin Lucke and Abbey Lucke.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, September 21, at Barranco and Sons Funeral Home, 495 Gov. Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 22 at St. Martin's-in-the-Field Episcopal Church, 375 Benfield Road, Severna Park, MD, with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Severna Park Assistance Network
